Gujo Hachiman Castle
Gujo Hachiman Castle was started in 1559 at the end of the Warring States period (1467 – 1590), when Endo Morikazu set up a camp for the war. The Endo family, Inaba family, Inoue family, Kanamori family and Aoyama family ruled this area as the Lord of the castle. This castle was abandoned in 1871 due to the abolition of han system and was destroyed in the next year. The castle we see now was rebuilt in 1933 as the oldest rebuilt wooden castle tower. It was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Gujo. It is also famous for its morning mist as the sky castle of Gifu. It was also selected as one of the Continued 100 Fine Castles of Japan.
