Pears and grapes in autumn! Getting specialties of Yamato area at the roadside station
Another activity we look forward is go shopping at “Roadside Station Kokindenju-no-sato Yamato”. Returning to Gifu Yamato Interchange from Ihatov, we follow a signboard and take a detour! You can see specialty, enjoy running on the grass and feed crap, fully enjoy the nature here.
There is an indoor footbath too. You can get a rest after a whole day long trip.
I find this “Mino-musume” strawberry ice cream! It is only available here at Roadside Station Kokindenju-no-sato Yamato. The menu is strawberry milk bowl (590JYP, with tax), cream soda (450JPY, with tax) and ice cream (330JPY, with tax). Strawberry milk bowl, uses ice cream and soft cream made by milk from Gujo, is very popular! Ice cream used is handmade at the workshop inside this roadside station. Flavor changes according to seasons from matcha to Japanese chestnut and sweet potato. You can try different flavors every time you visit. Although today I ate lots of berries, enjoying seasonal special is a real pleasure during the trip.
Other than ice cream and soft cream, yogurt from Hirugano milk, pudding from Cokecocco Village and melon bun and mable bread, that many people travel from far away to buy, are available at the roadside station,
Noodle restaurant “Natsutsubaki” provides Kitsune-udon (Udon noodle with deep friend tofu). Japanese restaurant “Aguri” serves Hoba-miso, grated Japanese yam with barley rice and Kei-chan (Stir fried chicken with miso sauce). Thus, restaurant “Ogatama”, with open area, serves morning and lunch. You can enjoy all kinds of gourmets of Yamato!
I find shio-yaki ayu (Fried sweetfish with salt) outside the roadside station! I swear I will return next time with an empty stomach!
At the souvenir shop, you can find dobukuro, cake using doburoku and iburi-dofu ( Smoked tofu) from Motai Workshop, all specialties from Yamato. Other than all these, roadside station only Kei-chan from Ogatama are on sale too! Hen’s meat has the chewiest taste among the three kinds of Kei-chan.
Finally, we head to “Yamato morning market” selling fresh vegetables and rice from Gujo, inside the same area. You can buy new rice from September. If you do not know which or what to buy, get some ideas from the handwritten pops. Every August to September, people queue up for buying pears and grapes which are the most famous specialties at Yamato. By adding blue berry picking in September, trip to Gujo will be much FRUITful!
